Do you know your limits?

Thanks to our players, the Colorado Lottery has invested more than $4.3 billion in projects that support Colorado’s natural beauty and our schools. We take our mission to serve the people of Colorado seriously, and that includes ensuring that we promote healthy Lottery play as we strive to maximize this vital funding source for our state.

Responsibility is one of the Lottery’s three equal pillars of operation, along with Revenue and Conservation. Year-round, we run multiple campaigns to:

  • Raise awareness of problem gambling
  • Help players identify warning signs of problem gambling
  • Learn healthy play strategies
  • Understand the odds of winning
  • Provide resources for help

Raising the Bar for Responsible Play

The Colorado Lottery works year-round to honor our commitment to responsible gambling, but during Problem Gambling Awareness Month (PGAM) every March, we work overtime. On February 26, the Lottery and Department of Gaming kicked off the month with Problem Gambling Awareness Day at the Colorado State Capitol, where we joined our partners to raise awareness about problem gambling and the efforts Colorado is making to keep players safe. Year-round, the Lottery operates a player health program focused on increasing gambling literacy and operating responsibly. Here are some of the ways the Lottery promotes safe play:

  • Underage compliance stings plus age verification on every Lottery kiosk in the state
  • Certified with NASPL/NCPG Responsible Gambling Verification (RGV) Parallel Verification at the Sustaining Level of accreditation
  • Collaboration with problem gambling service providers
  • Participation in Problem Gambling Awareness Month (PGAM) to raise awareness of the addiction and services available
  • Responsible Gaming Education Month (RGEM) campaign to increase gambling literacy among players
  • Gift Responsibly campaign every holiday season educating the community about the risks associated with underage gambling
  • Full-time dedicated player health program manager
  • Follow a responsible gambling Marketing Code of Conduct
  • Employee, commissioner, vendor, and retailer staff training
  • Interactions with players to discuss positive play tools and strategies

Know Your Limits

Here are some helpful responsible gambling tips:

  • Think of gambling as entertainment, not a way to make money.
  • Set a gambling budget and stick to it.
  • Take a break every now and then.
  • Avoid gambling when you’re feeling lonely, angry, depressed, or stressed.
  • Set a spending and time limit in advance.
