Lakewood knows that the love of playing outdoors is universal.
The City of Lakewood will receive a Colorado Lottery Starburst Award for opening the Carmody Park Universal Playground and Outdoor Fitness Zone. The award will be presented at the Lakewood City Council meeting on Monday, July 8 at 7 p.m. The $2.7 million project, completed in June 2017, was made possible with two Lottery-funded grants: more than $1.3 million from the Conservation Trust Fund, and $350,000 from Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO).
The park improvement project, in partnership with Centura Health, enables local residents to play, recreate, exercise, and enjoy the outdoors no matter their age, physical or mental ability. The universal playground includes a modern and engaging play area, a heated restroom with amenities for visitors with disabilities, plenty of shade shelters, drinking water accessibility, and expanded parking. The adjacent Outdoor Fitness Zone features six exercise stations with modern, easy-to-use equipment for adults of all abilities.
Since 1984, the City of Lakewood has received $39 million in Lottery proceeds, including more than $34.8 million from the Conservation Trust Fund and more than $3.6 million from Great Outdoors Colorado.
The Colorado Lottery Starburst Awards recognize excellence in the use of Lottery proceeds in community projects implemented to enhance a community’s environment.
