Lamar residents really know how to use their pedal power.
The City of Lamar will receive a Colorado Lottery Starburst Award for building Lamar Wheels Park bike and skate park. The award will be presented at Willow Creek Park on Friday, June 21 at 6 p.m. at the Friday with the Force event. The $451,296 project, completed in August 2018, was made possible with $300,000 in Lottery funds via Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO).
The project - part of the 2014 Parks, Trails, and Recreation Master Plan - helped Lamar meet its goals of providing a place for cyclists and skaters to improve their skill level and fitness, and offer more outdoor recreation opportunities in town. Mountain bicyclists, BMX riders, skateboarders, and many others in the community and surrounding towns are enjoying Lamar Wheels Park, the only park of its kind in the region.
Since 1984, Prowers County has received more than $3.8 million from the Conservation Trust Fund (CTF) and more than $4.1 million from GOCO, for a total of nearly $8 million in Lottery proceeds invested in the area.
The Colorado Lottery Starburst Awards recognize excellence in the use of Lottery proceeds in community projects implemented to enhance a community’s environment.
