Powerball: Reason to play

A Powerful Reason to Play
The Money Stays in Colorado

Proceeds from the sale of Colorado Powerball tickets go to the Lottery''s current proceeds recipients -- the Conservation Trust Fund, State Parks, and Great Outdoors Colorado Trust Fund. If the Great Outdoors Colorado Trust Fund exceeds its cap, spillover will be directed to public school districts to address health and safety issues. To date, more than $2 billion has been returned back to the people of Colorado.

How to Play

Powerball is Colorado Lottery's exciting, multi-state jackpot game.  Players select 5 numbers from a field of 1 to 59 plus 1 additional number, the Powerball number, from a field of 1 to 39.  There are two ways to choose your numbers.

Let the computer pick the numbers for you. Just ask the retail clerk for Powerball Quick Pick or mark the "QP" box on a playslip.

Or choose your lucky numbers by selecting 5 out of 59 numbers and one Powerball number from 1 to 39.  (The Powerball number can be the same as one of your original five numbers. View demo for details on how to fill out your playslip.)  Each line of play or board costs $1.  You can play these same numbers for more than one drawing by marking the Advance Play box.  (View demo for details)  These same numbers can be played for up to 26 consecutive Powerball drawings.

Drawings are at 8:59 pm Wednesdays and Saturdays, so make sure you buy your tickets for each Powerball drawing by 7:30 pm on the day of the drawing.

Effective July 1, 2009, FOX 31, KDVR-TV in Denver, will air the Powerball drawing at 9:28 pm. This is a change from the previous broadcast time of 8:59 pm. Grand Junction and Colorado Springs / Pueblo will continue broadcasting results live at 8:59 pm.

  • Multiply your winnings up to 5 times the original amount!  (excluding jackpot)
  • Power Play applies to all boards or lines of play on a ticket and costs $1 per line of play per drawing. For example 3 boards or lines of play + Power Play costs $6.
  • During the Powerball drawing a Power Play number from 2 to 5 will be drawn.
  • If you have selected Power Play and win a prize from $3 to $10,000, your prize will be multiplied by the number drawn.

Note:  Powerball officials may reduce prize levels for Powerball and/or Power Play, including the Match 5+0 prize, in the event that an  unanticipated number of winner claims exceed the available prize fund for a given drawing.  In such instances the dollars allocated to each prize level impacted will be divided equally among all winners of that prize.

 Match 5 Bonus Prize:

When the Powerball jackpot reaches the largest previous Powerball jackpot amount, the amount of the jackpot prize will increase by no more than $25 million per draw. Any jackpot prize money collected in excess of the increased jackpot amount will be placed into a Bonus Prize pool and will accumulate until there is a jackpot winner. At that time, the money in the Bonus Prize pool will be divided equally among all winners of the Match 5 ($200,000) prize. If there are no Match 5 winners, the Bonus Prize will be divided equally among all winners of the Match 4 + Powerball ($10,000) prize. The Bonus Prize will be paid in one lump cash sum.

The Bonus Prize is in addition to any Power Play prize that is won. The Bonus Prize is not multiplied by the Power Play number.
EXAMPLE:
- Player X matches 5 white balls ($200,000)
- The Power Play number is 3
- Share of the Bonus Prize pool is $650,000
